Let say now that you’ve had got a microwave, you may ask how to keep your microwave oven in good working order.

Well, don’t wait until the house is full of relatives or the Thanksgiving turkey is in the oven to discover that the thermostat is broken or that a small spark has started a fire. So, avoid embarrassing situations or expensive repairs by constantly maintaining your microwave oven.

Here’s how:

  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for operating procedures, safety precaution & cooking instructions
  • Check the accuracy of the oven’s thermostat with an oven thermometer. A large difference means that you need to replace the thermostat.
  • Hire qualified service technicians for all adjustments & repairs.
  • NEVER try to repair your own microwave. It is a complex appliance that includes a magnetron, high voltage transformer, thermal protectors, and complicated circuits.
  • Check the oven door for food particles or spills. These can build up in the hinges or around the edge, thus preventing the door from sealing properly when closed.
  • Don’t use the oven if the door does not close, is bent, warped or damaged in any way.
  • Clean spills as soon as the oven cools. Don’t continuously use the oven with an accumulation of spills in the bottom because the microwave oven can’t heat properly.
  • Never pour water into the oven in an attempt to cool it quickly so you can clean a spill.
  • Don’t disable or tamper with the oven’s safety interlocks.
  • Never insert any object through any opening in the oven or around the door seal.
  • Always keep the oven door & seal clean but do not use abrasive cleansers.
  • Ensure that all oven cleaner has been rinsed away before cooking in the oven again.
  • Once in a while, take a good look at your microwave oven. If there is a noticeable damage to the door or door hinges, latches or screen, there may be excessive leakage. The soonest possible, contact the manufacturer, distributor, or a qualified service technician to have the oven professional inspected.

This is just a brief tips about how to maintain your microwave, I plan to write a more detail one in my microwave reviews blog coming post:)
